The highlight of the week, the Gratiot Cruise, is set for Saturday morning at 10 a.m., with the cruising area extending from Eight Mile to Ten Mile roads.
Vehicle registration opens at 9 a.m., followed by the opening ceremony at 11 a.m. at Eastpointe High School.
Classic car owners can cruise along Gratiot Avenue until 8 p.m. However, to compete in any of the 18 judging categories, participants must register and pay a fee of $15.
Veteran cruisers should be aware of a few changes this year: there will not be a designated cruising lane on Gratiot Avenue, and the VIP parade has been eliminated.
Merchandise such as hats, bags, and T-shirts will be available for purchase at Cloverleaf Pizza Restaurant, Advance Auto Parts, First State Bank, Muffler Man, Pep Boys, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, and Eastpointe High School. VIP cruise packages, which can only be obtained at Eastpointe High School, are priced at $45 and include a T-shirt, bag, judging ticket, dash plaque, and an “I Cruised Gratiot” street sign.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to local charities, including the Eastpointe Lions Club, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Men’s Club, Love Life Family Christian Center, East Detroit Tiger Cats, and St. Vincent De Paul.
