Center Line High School officials placed the school in an immediate lockdown, and a rapid response by the Center Line police enabled the handgun to be located in the possession of a student.
Center Line police conducted an investigation, which led to a warrant request for the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) to charge three juveniles attending the school with several misdemeanor and felony offenses.
Further court proceedings are pending against them.
Following the incident, Center Line police conducted a careful and thorough investigation to determine the ownership of the handgun that the student brought to school.
Center Line police alleged that Christy’s grandson was invited to her house in Clinton Township, where he found her handgun and ammunition in an unlocked room.
Center Line police allege that the student took the handgun from Christy’s house without her knowledge, and then he eventually brought the gun to Center Line High School, where it was displayed and handled by two other students.
After review by the Center Line Police and the MCPO, Christy is being charged with:
Count 1: Firearms—Safe Storage Violations—Premises Under Individual’s Control—Minor Present and Possess or Exhibited is a misdemeanor punishable up to 93 days and a fine of not more than $500.
Based on the evidence presented to date, this is the maximum offense under the law that the MCPO can charge Christy with.
Christy had no prior record of criminal violations.
Christy was arraigned in the 41B Clinton Township District Court, where a $100,000 personal bond was set with the condition of no possession of firearms or any other weapons.
The Pretrial for Christy is scheduled for June 3, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. by Zoom before 41B Clinton Township District Court.
