WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – A man was arrested after allegedly stealing a car late Sunday night in Wayne County with young children still inside.

On May 18, 2025, at around 11 p.m., a mother stopped at a store on Michigan Avenue and Venoy Road to buy groceries when her car, with her three children inside, was stolen. The suspect traveled east on Michigan Avenue with the stolen car.

The car was spotted shortly after parking in the 27000 block of Cherry Hill in Dearborn Heights by an undercover Dearborn Police detective. The detective saw a 25-year-old man getting in and out of it.

After a minute of the car being spotted, dispatch reported that a caller could hear children crying in the parking lot of a business in the area of Middlebelt and Grandview in Inkster, nearly two miles away. Officers arrived and found the 3-year-old and two 18-month-old twins unharmed and still in their car seats.

The children were checked by first responders at the scene and returned to their mother.

The 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with the theft and kidnapping.
