DETROIT – The Detroit City Council has approved a funding plan for the Detroit City Football Club to construct a new stadium.
Council members approved reimbursing the club for the demolition of the vacant Southwest Detroit Hospital, which will serve as the site for the new stadium.
Located near the Corktown and Mexicantown neighborhoods, the hospital has been empty since 2007. The Southwest Detroit Hospital was acquired by the Detroit City Football Club in 2024, which plans to build a permanent home for soccer in the city.

Demolition is expected to begin in August and be completed by Spring 2026.
The new soccer-specific stadium is expected to be open before the 2027 season.
