A grassroots skateboarding festival is catching a lot of buzz from the community on social media and gaining a hand from big-name organizations like Live Nation, Red Bull, and Let’s Grow Michigan. On Saturday, May 17, ‘Cartoons & Stereo’ will be hosted at Big Pink. The all-day festival runs from 2 PM - 11 PM with a pop-up skatepark activation built by Royal Oak’s Modern Skate Park. There will also be local food trucks, vintage vendors, and an array of live music from Detroit-based talent and special guest performers.

From 7 PM - 8 PM a tournament-style 9ft Rim Dunk Contest will be hosted featuring 22 participants, judged by a 7-person panel, with prizes awarded to the top three dunkers courtesy of Live Nation.
The first Cartoons & Stereo festival was hosted in 2022 at Bishop Skatepark with an attendance of around 400 people. Recently, the festival has scaled up significantly, expanding its programming, partnerships, and projected audience reach. This year, the festival has already reached nearly 1000 RSVPs.
“This festival is more than an event—it’s ground zero for something that will be around for a very long time,” said Stoop Lee, performing artist and festival founder. “I see Cartoons & Stereo becoming a legacy celebration for this city. It’s about giving shine to artists who are progressing the sound of Detroit, building community, and creating something that can live here for years to come. Safety, security, and an inclusive environment are priorities as we grow this into a sustainable annual event.”
